How EMDR works

Imagine your mind as a library, filled with memories and experiences. Normally, these memories are neatly organized and easily accessible. However, when we go through a traumatic event or disturbing experience, these memories can become "stuck" or disorganized, causing distress and difficulty in daily life. EMDR therapy aims to help reorganize these memories and facilitate healing.

What EMDR looks like in session

During an EMDR session, a trained therapist guides the individual in a series of bilateral stimulation techniques. This typically involves following a digital ball on your screen from side to side.

EMDR can help resolve trauma

These bilateral stimulations are thought to activate the brain's natural healing process by enhancing communication between different parts of the brain. As a result, the individual is better able to process distressing memories and emotions associated with them. Over time, the intense emotions and physical sensations linked to traumatic events are gradually replaced by more adaptive and neutral thoughts.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach that has revolutionized the field of mental health by helping individuals overcome emotional distress and trauma.
